Please forgive me if this has already been hashed to death. I'm new here and can't find this question addressed anywhere on this site.
I just moved from Atlanta, GA to Carlsbad, CA. With my M.Ed in Counseling coupled with an expired GA counseling certification......6 years counseling experience - but no License.....I'm trying to figure out what it takes to start a counseling practice in California - - one that can hopefully work with Insurance companies. In my research, I've read through the info on BBS and the Counseling Coalition and I believe it would be simpler to just go ahead and get my PhD......I'm only half kidding:)
I hear there IS no licensing except for MFTs in California....but that may soon change....and there are heated debates for and against. My actual degree is in "Rehabilitation Counseling" - - but my experience is as a school guidance counselor. I would like to work with children and families as I did in Atlanta.....but I'm discouraged trying to find the information I need to make it happen.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Or shall I finish filling out this application for Starbucks?
Thank you for reading. All pearls of wisdom are welcome.
~~Evelyn
